DAMA- Demand Assignment Multiple Access
This page describes DAMA(Demand Assignment Multiple Access) basics and provides DAMA features at Hub Station and Remote Station.
The term DAMA or Demand Assignment Multiple Access is widely used term in satellite communication based networks.
DAMA concept isused mainly for VSAT based network for capacity assignment based on demand dynamically. The first commercial deployment of DAMA system was known as SPADE. SPADE stands for Single channel per carrier, Pulse code modulation, Multiple Access,Demand assignment Equipment.
DAMA at Hub station has NCS(Network Control system) which takes care of communicating
with all the remote VSATs using signalling modem and will take care of
traffic channel assigment to traffic modem dynamically(based on demand) using dedicated signalling channel.
DAMA at remote VSAT side works with centralized DAMA at Hub and is responsible for establishing the call.
It also monitors the status of all the VSAT equipments at remote side as well as provide report of equipments to Hub station for NMS(Network Management System).
As mentioned above any typical DAMA system requires traffic modem to take care of traffic channel,signalling modem to take care of signalling channel, DAMA controller at Hub and DAMA controller at remote side.
