Introduction:
Vehicle manufacturers are utilizing innovative technologies to produce vehicles which provide safe and comfortable experience for both passengers and drivers. Inspite of all their efforts, road accidents happen due to drowsiness of drivers.

Drowsiness makes drivers physically inactive and insensitive to surroundings. As a result, their eyelids get closed which leads to serious accidents. The IoT based system described here monitors driver's consciousness based on facial image and eyelid's EAR value and alert them. Moreover system monitors acceleration pattern and steering angle to detect any abnormalities in the driving in order to alert drivers. Machine learning techniques and image processing help to achieve the task.

➤The figure depicts the system consists of a camera which focuses on eye and facial area and a OBD device which measures speed variation and streering angle.
➤Camera mounted in front of the driver's seat continuously monitor the face and eye areas. This information is uploaded to the cloud server. At the cloud server, EAR (Eye Aspect Ratio) is calculated. Wireless GSM camera such as EYE-02 can also be used for this system.
➤OBD device is bluetooth compliant. It monitors the steering angle and acceleration pattern. The same is being received by the bluetooth device mounted in the car and uploaded to the cloud server using GSM. Bluetooth cum GSM/GPRS device such as SIM800 can be used for this purpose.
➤Any one of the cloud servers among adafruit, Google Cloud Platform, microsoft azue is used to store the captured data by OBD device and camera.
➤Data analytics tools and machine learning tools are being used to analyze the collected data at cloud server and accordingly driver is being alerted to prevent accidents.
➤The provision can also be provided in the system with registered telephone numbers based on route of the vehicle. The system alerts emergency ambulences of such hospitals to carry victims of the accident. This helps victims to receive immediate medical treatments. Life of many accident victims can be saved in this way.

The figure depicts Eye pattern with various points from P1 to P6. This is used to calculate Eye Aspect Ratio i.e. EAR.
